Egypt and Tunisia signed on Monday, November 17, 2025 a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to mutually recognize conformity certificates for non-food industrial goods, aiming to streamline trade, reduce inspection costs, and boost bilateral commerce.
The agreement was signed in Tunis by Essam El-Naggar, Chairman of Egypt’s General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC), and Khaled Soufi, President of the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality (EOS), alongside their Tunisian counterparts, according to the Egyptian State Information Service.
The MoU establishes a mechanism for the mutual acceptance of certificates issued by the competent authorities in both countries for approved industrial products of Egyptian or Tunisian origin.
The initiative is expected to cut pre-export inspection times, avoid duplicate checks, and strengthen confidence in regulatory systems and national laboratories, said the same source.
According to the Tunisian Ministry of Investment, the agreement aims to support domestic industries, facilitate regional market access and help raise bilateral trade to $1 billion.
The officials also discussed expanding trade and investment cooperation, promoting Tunisian investment in Egypt, showcasing opportunities for Egyptian companies in Tunisia and identifying sectors for joint private-sector partnerships.
Trade between the two countries reached $434.5 million in 2024, marking a 15.4% increase over the previous year.
