Tunisia: application “Taximan” wins first prize of Nokia-Microsoft contest

Tunisia won the first prize of “Midnight developer competition,” a contest held from December 2012 at the initiative of Nokia and Microsoft, with the participation of a hundred teams from 25 countries in the MENA region.

The winners of this contest are Tunisian students in private university “Esprit,” who started from the idea of developing a so-called “Taximan” application, downloadable in Windows Store to calculate the path cost of a taxi.

“The application can be used by any mobile phone with the windows phone option,” said a member of the Tunisian team.

The winners received 10,000 dollars (about 15,000 dinars) and won a trip to a Nokia event, a mobile phone “Nokia 920 windows phone” and an XBOX for each team member.

Faouzi Soussi, director of education at Microsoft Tunisia, said at a ceremony Tuesday in Tunis to announce the results of the contest, that the objective of this initiative is to “maximize the learning process of young developers and show how to move from an abstract idea to an application accessible to millions of consumers on windows phone system.”

“The competition can educate and inform students of the latest technologies of mobile development,” he added.
