Tunisia: August’s oil production declines 24% over a year (ETAP)

Oil production fell by 23.6% in August 2020, compared to August 2019, according to the daily data of the Tunisian Company of Petroleum Activities (ETAP).

Compared to July, production in August was down 19.8% to 645 thousand barrels, mainly due to the shutdown of the Nawara field for the third consecutive week.

Over the first eight months of the year, cumulative production from ETAP’s concessions fell by 4% from 7 million barrels in 2019 to 6.75 million barrels at the end of August.

It is important to recall that the production of ETAP concessions represents nearly 80% of the total production of Tunisia.

Gas production in August reached 113.4 million Sm3 (standard cubic meters) from 134.4 million in July, a decrease of 15.7%. Compared to August 2019, gas production decreased by 3.1% to 117 million Sm3.

However, gas production has increased by 2.9% from the beginning of the year to 962.4 million Sm3, compared to 935.6 million during the same period in 2019.

This performance is due in particular to the start-up of production at the Nawara field.
