Tunisia: banknotes and coins in circulation hit new historical record

The level of banknotes and coins in circulation in Tunisia has reached a new historical record on January 30, 2018, amounting to 11.9 billion dinars.
That level could be the result of the expansion of the informal sector and tax evasion.
The rise in the banknotes and coins in circulation has clearly caused banks’ liquidity needs to increase.
According to the Central Bank, monetary policy operations have consequently risen to 11.23 billion dinars by January 30, 2018.
