Tunisia is capable of playing a major role in global value chains, according to Samir Majoul, president of the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA) and the Union of Arab Chambers, who believes it is time to build a Franco-Arab partnership based on trust.
On Thursday in Paris (France), Majoul attended the opening session of the fifth Franco-Arab economic summit and a workshop on the Maghreb’s place in international value chains.
The summit, entitled “Strengthening France’s place in the Arab world”, is jointly organized by the Franco-Arab Chamber of Commerce, the Union of Arab Chambers of Commerce and the Confederation of French Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises.
Majoul stressed that Tunisia’s trade agreements and strategic geographical location should enable it to become an export platform for French companies seeking to diversify their markets, particularly in Africa, the Middle East and Europe.
During the debate, the President of the Employers’ Confederation stressed that, in the current unstable geopolitical situation and in the face of successive international crises, the main challenge today is to guarantee sovereignty in a number of areas, notably food, energy, health and cyberspace.
He noted that Tunisia is working to accelerate the modernization of its transport infrastructure and to diversify its high-tech and renewable energy industries to meet the growing demand for environmental products and support value chains.
