Tunisia: Alkimia ends 2020 with deficit of 34.875 MD

According to the report of its auditors for the entire fiscal year 2020, the Alkimia Chemical Company where the Tunisian chemical group holds more than 39% of the capital and the Driss and La Carte groups almost 18%, had ended the year with a deficit of more than 34.875 MDT. That loss doubled compared to the 15.928 MD of the year 2019.

It is noted that revenues were already down more than 6.5 MD year-on-year. The decrease by 7.875 MD of the company’s operating expenses, was not enough to positively impact the final result.

Production in 2020 reached 55 680 tons of sodium tri-polyphosphate (STPP; Na5P3O10) against 47 660 tons produced in 2019, posting an increase of 16.83%.

However, this remains below the nominal production capacity of the plant due to lower demand on the International Market and the loss of important customers after the various declarations of Force Majeure due to the forced stoppages of production units in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 owing to lack of phosphoric acid.

Despite the improvement in the sales volume, the turnover saw a decrease of 4.79% due to the concomitant drop in the selling prices of STPP on the International Market and the rate of the Dollar against the Dinar.
