Tunisia: car ferry ”Tanit” operational mid-June

Cotunav’s car ferry “Tanit” will be operational in mid-June 2012 to connect Tunis to Marseille and Genoa, website “Econostrum” reported.

The ship, currently nearing completion in South Korean shipyards Daewoo, has a capacity of 3,200 passengers and 1060 cars.

It will replace the car ferry “Habib” (launched in 1978) to be sold and car ferry “Eleftherios Venizelos” chartered every summer for ten years.

The Tunisian national company, owner of car ferry “Carthage,” also operates passenger ships “Amilcar,” “Elyssa,” “Ulysses” and “Salammbo” and freighter “Kef” Between Marseille and Rades and Genoa and Rades.
