Clinker exports grew by 382 percent in 2018 to 1.5 million tons from 311 thousand tons in 2017, according to data released by the Ministry of Industry and Small and Medium Enterprises.
Cement exports reached 273 thousand tons in 2018, a slight increase of 3.71%, compared to 2017.
Regarding the consumption of the local market in cement, it reached about 7 million tons in 2018, the same level in 2016.
Clinker production went up by 6.71% in 2018 to 7.353 million tons compared to 6.890 million tons in 2017.
The level of cement production was maintained in 2018 at the same level than 2017, i.e. 7.3 million tons.
The cement sector provides a strategic stock of cement and clinker to meet the needs of the local market during peak periods and also promotes access to foreign markets.
It should be noted that a committee under the Prime Ministry was created in 2018 to facilitate and simplify clinker export operations.
