Consumer prices rose by 0.8% in September 2024 compared with August 2024, according to a note published on Saturday by the National Statistics Institute (INS) on the consumer price index for September 2024.
This increase is mainly due to a 1.5% rise in food prices and a 3.9% rise in prices in the ‘education’ group.
On the other hand, prices in the ‘clothing and footwear’ group fell by 0.1% following the extension of the summer sales season, the INS said.
1.5% rise in food prices
Over one month, food prices rose by 1.5%, with dried fruit up by 5%, fresh fruit up by 4.6%, poultry up by 4.5% and fresh vegetables up by 4.2%.
On the other hand, beef prices fell by 1.5%.
Prices of educational products and services rose by 3.9%. This increase was mainly due to a 4.2% rise in the price of school supplies, a 5.5% rise in the price of private secondary education services, a 3.4% rise in the price of private tuition and a 3.1% rise in the price of private pre-primary and primary education services.
According to the INS, prices in the ‘recreation and culture’ group increased by 1.4%. This increase was mainly due to a 7.1% rise in the price of newspapers, magazines and cultural books.
