Tunisia: consumer products top soaring imports

Imports continue to grow at a faster pace than exports, with a rate +14.6%, following a rise in imports in most sectors, mainly food products, non-food consumption products by 15.7% (-0.7% in 2011), energy 36.3% (16.9% in 2011).

Similarly, purchases of capital goods and raw materials and semi-finished products kept stable with respective increases of 12.1% and 7.1%.

According to the geographical distribution of trade, the results show that the degradation of the overall balance of the trade balance is due to deficit with some countries and especially with China where the deficit peaked at -1,276.7 MTD.
