Tunisia: current account deficit down to TND 2.7 billion in 1st four months of 2021

The current account deficit improved significantly in the first four months of 2021 to 2.7 billion dinars or 2.3% of GDP, compared to 2.7% in the same period of the previous year.

This result is attributable mainly to the contraction of the trade deficit by 8.7%, combined with the continued consolidation of labor income (+16.8%), while tourism revenues fell by 55% in relation to the continuing impact of the COVID-19 crisis.

Therefore, labor income (expat remittances) totaled 2.34 billion dinars at the end of last April, posting an increase of 386 million dinars compared to the same date in 2020.

As for tourism revenues, they fell by 463 million dinars to 565 million dinars at the end of last April, compared to 1 billion dinars a year earlier.
