Tunisia: Current account deficit narrows significantly to TND 4.2 bn at end of November

The current account showed a balance of TND -4,234 million, or -2.7% of GDP, at the end of November 2023, compared with TND -11,982 million, or -8.3% of GDP, a year earlier, according to data from the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT).

The significant reduction in the current account deficit was the result of the continued contraction in the trade deficit, despite the energy deficit remaining high, and the good performance of the services balance, explains the issuing institution.

At December 11, 2023, foreign exchange reserves had stabilized at around TND 25 billion, covering 113 days of imports, compared with TND 22.1 billion (96 days of imports) at the same date last year.
