The national demand for petroleum products went up 18% at the end of April 2021 to 1476 thousand tons of oil equivalent (toe).

It has resumed its upward momentum, after the full lockdown measures taken by the Government last year, which had led to a decline in demand, according to the document of the “Energy Situation” which has just been published by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mines.

The consumption of road fuels has increased by 23% during the first four months of 2021. It represents 62% of the total consumption of petroleum products. The consumption of LPG has risen by 1%, while that of kerosene went up by 4%, during the same period.as for the consumption of petroleum coke, it grew 50%.

However, the consumption of jet aviation, recorded a significant decrease of 44% at the end of April 2021 compared to the same period of the previous year, because of the slowdown in activities of the air transport sector, which is suffering the full impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
