Tunisia: European Commission disburses € 100 million on €300 million loan

The European Commission, Thursday, paid to Tunisia € 100 million, announced the EU, adding that this disbursement is the first of a series of three planned in the context of a macro-economic assistance plan approved by the Union in 2014 providing for a loan of €300 million.

According to Pierre Moscovici, EU Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs, Taxation and Customs, this tranche “is a concrete example of the support the European Union brings to the political transition in Tunisia and reform program.”

Economically, “this program will create conditions for sustainable growth that benefits everyone, and macro-economic support currently provided is a contribution in this direction,” said Moscovici.

The macro-financial assistance provided by the EU to its neighboring countries is “a response to the crisis”, noted the European Commission, a tool that the EU has offered its closest partners.
