Tunisian exports reached 2,196.1 million Tunisian dinars (MTD) in January 2013, against 1,778.5 MTD in the same period of 2012, posting an increase of 23.5%, according to preliminary statistics released Saturday by the Ministry of Commerce.
These data also show a growth of about 6.9% in imports which reached 2,963.1 MTD
in January 2013, against 2,772 MTD a year earlier.
In light of these developments, the trade deficit went down by 22.8% compared to its level at the beginning of 2012 and the rate of coverage of imports by exports rose by about 10 points (74.1% against 64.2% in January 2012).
Tunisia’s trade deficit had widened in 2012 to reach 17,238 MTD against 14,037 MTD in 2011.
The coverage rate reached 37.2% (against 38.2%), according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
