Tunisia: external debt servicing approaches 10 billion dinars

Tunisia’s cumulative external debt servicing amounted to 9.8 billion dinars, until 20 December 2021, compared to 8.2 billion on the same date a year earlier, up about 20% (+1.6 billion dinars), according to data from the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT).

The 2021 Finance Law foresees that the amount of the external debt service will be 8.3 billion dinars (against 5.85 billion in 2020) distributed between 6.5 billion dinars in principal and 1.8 billion in interest.

It should be recalled that Tunisia’s outstanding external debt amounted to 62.2 billion dinars at the end of September 2021 and is expected to reach (according to the finance law) 74.2 billion dinars at the end of the current year.

Outstanding foreign debt at the end of September represented 61% of Tunisia’s total public debt, which amounted to 101.8 billion dinars at the end of the first nine months of 2021.

It is expected to rise to 109.2 billion at December 31, or 90.1% of GDP.
