Tunisia: French donates 1.3 million MTD to support decentralization

Tunisia has received a donation of 1.3 million Tunisian dinars (600,000 Euros) granted by France to fund the Priority Solidarity Fund (FSP) to support decentralization and financial governance.

“With this donation, France intends to provide technical support to the decentralization committee set up within the Ministry of the Interior, through education, training and expertise” said François Gouyette, Ambassador of France in Tunisia during the signing of the financing agreement of the FSP held Wednesday afternoon at the seat of the Interior Ministry in Tunis.

“It is also supporting the efforts of five pilot municipalities (Kasserine, Kef, Sfax, Tozeur Bizerte) to consult with civil society and appropriate financial management tools,” said Mr. Gouyette.

The project covers the period 2013-2015 and will be monitored daily by an international technical expert who will be in Tunisia next December, he indicated.

“The FSP will allow Tunisia to think of its new model of democracy that will be unique, specific and adapted to its social, political and cultural context,” said Mr. Gouyette.

The Fund to support French-Tunisian decentralized cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs launched in 2012 has supported nine decentralized cooperation projects for a total amount of 170 thousand euros, in addition to the planned projects in 2013 -2014, he noted.
