Tunisia: Government announces suspension of oil prices hikes

Minister of Finance, Elyes Fakhfakh announced Thursday the suspension of the increase in oil prices, which should enter into force on January 1, 2014 under the Finance Act for that year.

The minister told TAP news agency on the sidelines of the regular meeting of the citizen budget, held at the seat of the Department of Finance, these increases would generate revenues of about 220 million dinars (MTD) for the state budget.

The government of Ali Larayedh had decided to suspend taxes on vehicles contained in the Finance Act 2014, which sparked protests in different parts of the country.

Fakhfakh said the suspension of these charges will result in a shortfall in state revenue of 69 MTD.
