Tunisia: highest unemployment rate in southwest with 25.6% in Q2 (INS)

The southwest region (Gafsa, Tozeur and Kebili) has recorded the highest unemployment rate in Tunisia in the second quarter of 2017 with 25.6% or 54 thousand unemployed people.

According to data provided to TAP by the National Institute of Statistics (INS), Tataouine is placed first at the national level with a 32.4% unemployment rate.

The same data revealed that the unemployment rate at the national level reached 15.3% with 626.1 thousand unemployed people.

The southeast region of Tunisia (Gabes, Medenine and Tataouine) ranked second with a rate of 24.3% and more than 80 thousand unemployed people.

The central east (Sfax, Mahdia, Sousse and Monastir) recorded the lowest unemployment rate with 9.7% and 93.3 thousand unemployed people.

The unemployment rate recorded in Greater Tunis (Tunis, Ben Arous, Ariana and Manouba) reached 17% with 191.1 thousand jobless individuals.

The number of unemployed university graduates decreased to 250.6 thousand in Q2 of 2017 from 259.6 thousand in Q1 of the same year, i.e. a 30.3% unemployment rate in Q2 and 31.2% in Q1.
