Tunisia: Industrial exports climb 11.1%

Industrial exports have increased by 11.1% in the first quarter of 2015, according to the Agency for Promotion of Industry and Innovation (APII).

They went up from 5,612.6 MTD in the first three months of 2014 to 6,236.3 MTD in the first quarter of 2015.

The agri-food sector recorded the largest increase in exports. Indeed, the sector’s exports grew by 238.9%, from 297.6 MTD to 1,008.5 MTD.

This is the same for leather and footwear, whose exports rose 5.9% (254.4 MTD to 269.3 MTD) and various industries (+ 10.9% from 341 MTD to 378.1 MTD).

Exports of building materials industries as well as mechanical and electrical industries increased each 2.7%, reaching 132.2 MTD and 2,739.4 MTD, respectively, in 2015 against respective values of the order of 128.7 MTD and 2,666.4 MTD.

Other sectors have experienced a decline in their exports. These are chemical products sectors whose exports fell by 23.6% (from 518.7 MTD to 396.4 MTD) and textiles and clothing (-6.6% to 1,405.8 MTD from 1,312.4 MTD).
