The inflation rate in Tunisia fell slightly in March 2012, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS) which puts the figure at 5.4% against 5.7% in February 2012.
The INS’s report indicates that this decline is not significant, given the increase in prices compared to March 2011 which involved all commodities, including food (7.5%), clothes and footwear (7.1%), restaurants and hotels (7.3%), housing and domestic energy (3.9%).
The INS asserts that the consumption index declined 0.1% in March 2012, due to the decrease of the price index of some food and drinks, like eggs (11, 2%), poultry (-3.0%), beef (-1.3%), edible oil (-0.5%).
However, prices of vegetables went up by 3.3% and so did fresh fruit (0.7%) and fresh fish (0.4%).
