Tunisia: Isuzu plant restarts after 10 years of suspension

The Director General of car components plant Isuzu, Hamadi Atrous, announced Thursday that the resumption of the company at the beginning of this week “had a positive impact on other automotive components production companies and units that had suffered economic downturn as a result of the cessation of production for ten years.

He added, during a press conference Thursday afternoon at the company’s headquarters in Kairouan that the Management has decided to recruit 500 employees, through the regional employment authority, 230 of whom have already taken their positions. He explained, in this sense, that recruitment is still ongoing.

The Director General has also expressed the desire that drives the management of the factory to produce 8 medium trucks and heavy trucks per day and “further develop activities to achieve an average of 20 trucks, as soon as possible. »

Mr. Atrous added that some of these trucks will be exported to Lebanon, while stressing that negotiations are underway with the companies concerned to allow the company to produce small cars for export to Algeria and Morocco, in a first step.

He said that next year, the plant plans to produce minibuses, which will require an increase in the number of workers and technicians.
