Tunisia: Japan doubles financial support

Japan will provide support to Tunisia for the creation of a regional academic center in science and technology in Africa, said President of the Japanese Agency for International Cooperation (JICA), Akihito Tanaka.

Tunisian-Japanese cooperation will also involves Japanese support to Tunisia in the field of fight against disasters, and the creation of a Tunisian-Japanese university center, in the technology hub of Borj Cédria (governorate of Ben Arous), to train African scientific skills.

The subsidiary of JICA in Tunisia will carry out preliminary studies on the water desalination project in Sfax and the electric generator in Rades, knowing that the agency has already completed technical studies relating to the protection of the basin of Wadi Majerda from floods.

Financial support from the Japanese government to Tunisia has doubled. This amount exceeds currently 1.2 billion dinars (MTD), against 650 MD in 2012 that had been earmarked to finance three projects related to the construction of the motorway Gabes-Medenine, drinking water supply in urban areas in Jendouba and development of sanitation stations in ten governorates.
