Tunisia: Launch of TND 10-million financing program to support forage harvest season

The Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fisheries and the Tunisian Solidarity Bank (BTS) have launched a financing program to support the coarse forage harvest season for 2024-2025.

A joint circular was signed by Minister Ezzeddine Ben Cheikh and BTS Director General Khalifa Sboui to formalize the initiative.

A funding of 10 million dinars has been allocated for seasonal loans with favorable terms.

They will benefit small farmers, livestock breeders, cooperatives, and agricultural professionals

The program offers two types of financing. The first is capped at ten thousand dinars and is intended for small farmers and livestock breeders.

The second is capped at fifty thousand dinars and is intended for civil societies, cooperatives, and groups.

These loans require no collateral or self-financing, have a fixed interest rate, and can be repaid over a maximum period of 12 months.

Initially rolled out in nine priority governorates, the program may be extended at a later date. It is open to all registered and active livestock farmers across the country.

The initiative aims to strengthen food security, promote sustainable agriculture, and reduce Tunisia’s dependence on imports as its agricultural sector faces mounting challenges related to climate change.

The Regional Commissions for Agricultural Development (CRDA) will support beneficiaries throughout the process in coordination with the BTS.
