Tunisia: Maltese group plans to invest €520 Million in solar plant in Gafsa

The Maltese group HandsOn Systems Ltd., specializing in advanced technology solutions, will build a 350 MW photovoltaic solar power plant in southern Tunisia, in the Gafsa region.

The total investment is estimated at approximately 520 million euros, covering all the infrastructure, equipment, and technologies necessary for project implementation.

In this context, a delegation from the group, led by Geoffrey Farrugia, General Manager, was received on Thursday, December 18, by FIPA-Tunisia (Foreign Investment Promotion Agency of Tunisia), responsible for promoting and facilitating foreign investment in the country.

Although the precise project timeline has not yet been announced, experts from the Maltese group have already defined the scope and specialty of the investment. The project will focus on producing clean, renewable solar energy, integrating cutting-edge photovoltaic technologies and smart management systems to optimize electricity production and distribution.

HandsOn Systems Ltd., an internationally renowned group, specializes in advanced technology solutions, including GPS tracking and fleet management, RFID-based asset management, IoT platforms for data collection and analysis, as well as smart energy solutions.

The group has carried out several technology projects and deployments of connected solutions in Africa and Europe, particularly in GPS tracking, fleet management, and IoT. To date, no public project directly involving energy production infrastructure, such as a photovoltaic power plant, has been confirmed.

The project in Tunisia therefore aims to develop its activities in countries with high solar potential, leveraging photovoltaic technologies and smart management systems to maximize energy production and efficiency.

HandsOn Systems is currently active in several international markets: in Europe, notably in Italy via a subsidiary dedicated to the European market; in Africa, with projects in Ghana for GPS tracking and fleet management.

The company is headquartered in Malta, while maintaining offices and operations in several countries.

In the North and West Africa region, the group seeks to strengthen its presence in countries with high solar potential, where sunlight is at its maximum and the need for renewable infrastructure is growing rapidly.
