Tunisia: manufacturing exports climb 10.3%

Exports of manufacturing industries increased 10.3% in the first half of 2015, while exports of textiles fell by 6% and phosphate remain problematic, announced Zakaria Hamed, Minister of Industry, Energy and mining.

The minister, who was speaking at the opening of the 42nd edition of the Ksar Helal trade days noted that his department has taken several steps, the most important is the support to companies for their financial restructuring.

He said the program is ongoing and will be strengthened as part of the supplementary budget law.

The minister also recalled the large promotion program of the textile sector which is facing some difficulties and the incentive for companies active in the sector to move from subcontracting the production of final product, encouraging business leaders to take advantage of the mechanisms established for this purpose.

Hamed said foreign investment in Tunisia has increased by 70% in the first five months of 2015.

However, new investment intents posted some decline, he noted, indicating that this is normal after the terrorist attacks experienced by Tunisia in Bardo (March 18, 2015) and Sousse (June 26, 2015).
