Tunisia: MONOPRIX returns to profit in first half

Société Nouvelle Maison de la Ville de Tunis (SNMVT) – Monoprix – returned to profitability in the first half of 2023, posting a net profit of TND 1.7 million, compared with a loss of TND 3.6 million, at the end of June 2022.

The supermarket chain generated revenues of TND 311 million in the first half of the year, compared with TND 287.7 million a year earlier, an increase of TND 23.4 million or 8.1%.

Cost of sales picked up by 17.7% compared to the first half of last year. It increased from 236.2 million dinars to TND 254 million. This increase is in line with the company’s sales growth over the same period.

The trading margin, excluding other operating income and consumables, grew by 5.6 million dinars to TND 57 million in the first half of the year. The margin rate for the first half of 2023 was 22.5% compared to 21.8% for the same period in 2022, an increase of 0.7 points.

In addition, the company recorded financial income of TND 4.1 million and other ordinary gains of TND 4.5 million dinars, compared to net financial expenses of TND 2.5 million.
