Tunisia: natural gas production declines by 4%

Domestic natural gas production went down 4% to the end of May, 2015, according to the latest report from the National Energy Observatory, a copy of which was received by Africanmanager.

This decrease is explained by the fall in production of Hasdrubal field (-4%) due to the problems encountered at the LPG processing unit with a reduced flow and the decline in the production of well A1 from March 24, 2015 following a power failure. Add to that the reduced production of Miskar field (-4%), the drop in production of Chergui field (-14%) without forgetting the cessation of production of Sabria field and that of production of Franing field.

The same source also indicated that imports of Algerian gas were down 11% at end-May 2015, to 819 ktoe. This decline is due to a partial substitution of natural gas by an amount of 170 ktoe of fuel for power generation because its import price remains below that of the import of Algerian gas.

Moreover, the domestic supply of natural gas fell by 9% to 1,841 ktoe.
