Tunisia, new destination of luxury shoes

Tunisian Minister of Industry Mohamed Lamine Chakhari received, Thursday, an Italian delegation led by Giovanni Cordoni, Director of the Italian Technical Centre of Leather Industries (CESECA) and Aldo Chelini, managing director of Italian Company Dana Shoes.

Chakhari said efforts are currently focused on promoting the industrial sector, including that of luxury shoes. “Our strategy is to support international companies to settle in Tunisia,” said the minister.

He insisted, in this regard, on the development of high quality products made in Tunisia and on the government’s willingness to generalize this approach not only to industry but to all other services including luxury travel.

Aldo Chelini, managing director of Dana Shoes, established for more than two years in the industrial area of Mnihla in Tunisia, called on the Tunisian government to further assist Tunisian SMEs in quality certification and provide continuing training in collaboration with the National Centre of Leather and Footwear to move from an average quality of shoes to a premium product.

The Italian investor said his group plans to settle in the Kef region to ensure the expansion of the project despite the international crisis faced by the area of luxury shoes.

On his part, Mr. Giovanni Cordoni expressed his will to establish cooperation between the textile and Fashion Techno-park of Monastir and the new center recently established by the Italian Technical Centre of Leather Industries.
