Tunisia: open skies talks with EU to begin late May (official)

A delegation of the ministries of transport and tourism will travel, next May 25, 2012, to Brussels to begin open skies talks with the European Union, Minister of Transport Abdelkarim Harouni said.

The announcement was made at a meeting held by the Junior Chamber International of Monastir to present the results of the regional conference on the reality and prospects of local tourism.

Mr. Harouni also said the transport sector is facing real difficulties which his department is working to resolve.

The State will not tolerate any action likely to paralyze transport activity (sit-ins, blocking of roads, railways and ports), he underlined.

These forms of illegal protests harm the economy, tourism and the image of Tunisia abroad, said Mr. Harouni.

He also reviewed the programs decided by his Department to develop the sector, including adopting objective standards in granting transport licenses, re-organizing transport companies and improving ports’ competitiveness.
