Tunisia: Our goal is to reach 11 million tourists (Ben Azzouz)!

Houssem Ben Azzouz, president of the Inter-Professional Federation of Tunisian Tourism, affirmed during a phone interview on Mosaique FM, on Monday, August 4, that the indicators of the current tourist season are extremely encouraging.

He described the recorded figures as “very positive,” despite the doubts expressed on the matter.

He said he was surprised by the circulation of inaccurate data, which called into question the reliability of the sector’s statistics, clarifying that the figures come from official sources, namely, the Ministry of the Interior for foreign visitors, and the Central Bank as the second reference.

Ben Azzouz recalled that the objective for this season is to reach 11 million tourists, highlighting the richness and diversity of Tunisia’s tourism offerings.

He also insisted on the need to allocate a specific budget for promoting the destination in order to strengthen its visibility in international markets.

Among the potential obstacles to the full success of the season, he cited the sharp rise in air transport prices recorded in April and May, as well as the increase in accommodation rates in tourist establishments.

Finally, he regretted that Tunisia was not able to fully capitalize on the tense geopolitical context between Iran, Israel, and the United States.

According to him, competing countries such as Turkey, Egypt, or Jordan were able to react more quickly, making a strong comeback on the market thanks to attractive promotional offers aimed at attracting as many tourists as possible.
