Tunisia: Inflation rate drops to 5.3% in July

The inflation rate slightly, even surreptitiously, dropped to 5.3% in July 2025, compared to 5.4% in June 2025, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) announced on Tuesday.

Behind this drop, explains the INS, is the slowing pace of price increases in the “Food Products” group (5.9% in July 2025 compared to 6.4% in June 2025), due to “the fall in prices of edible oils by 22.9% and eggs by 4.7%,” versus increases in the prices of fresh vegetables (+25.3%), mutton (+19.1%), fresh fruits (+15.1%), and fresh fish (+11%).

Health, transport, clothing, and services…

On the other hand, the Institute reported an acceleration in the pace of price increases in the “Health services” group (4% in July 2025 compared to 3.4% in June 2025) as well as in the “Transport services” group (3.6% in July 2025 compared to 3.3% in June 2025).

As for manufactured goods, their prices rose by 5.3% over one year, due to the increase in prices of clothing and footwear (+9.2%) and household cleaning products (+5.3%).

For services, the price increase over one year reached 4.7%, mainly explained by the rise in prices in the “restaurants, cafés, and hotels” group (+11%).

As for core inflation (excluding food and energy), it slightly increased to 5.6%, after 5.5% the previous month. The prices of free (unregulated) products rose by 6.3% over one year.

The prices of regulated products, for their part, recorded an increase of 1.8%. Free food products saw an increase of 6.7%, compared to 0.5% for regulated food products.

Consumer prices up 0.3% in one month

In July 2025, consumer prices rose by 0.3%. This increase is mainly attributed to the rise in prices in the “Restaurants and Hotels” group (+1.2%), the “Health” group (+0.8%), and the “Transport” group (+0.6%). On the other hand, food prices slightly dropped by 0.1%.

The prices of the food group declined slightly by 0.1% month-over-month, mainly due to the fall in fresh fruit prices (-0.6%), mutton prices (-0.5%), and fresh vegetable prices (-0.4%). In contrast, fresh fish prices went up by 0.9%, and beverage prices by 0.5%.

As for services in cafés, restaurants, and hotels, they rose by 1.2%, following an increase in restaurant and café services prices by 0.5% and hotel service prices by 6%.

Concerning the health services group, prices rose by 0.8%, mainly due to a 1.3% increase in pharmaceutical product prices.
