Tunisia: potential closure of “Minerali Industriali” plants

The Tunisian subsidiary of the international group and Italian investor Minerali Industriali, plans to close the sites of Oueslatia and Sousse from early next year if it is unable to satisfy its customers at competitive prices.

The company, based in Tunisia for twenty years, announced that “we are stunned and flabbergasted by this unexpected decision that arises during the holiday season of Christmas and New Year.

The Tunisian State has published in the JORT published on 23/12/2022 that a customs tax of 100 dinars per ton will be applied from 01/01/2023 for the export of sand of any kind.

It explained that: “this tax represents more than one and a half to two times the current selling price. This puts the Tunisian sand out of the market and makes other sources more profitable, for example, the Egyptian sand, French, German and Portuguese to name a few.”
