Tunisia: Tourism revenues exceed TND 6 billion for the first time

As of 10 October 2023, tourism receipts surpassed the 6-billion-dinar mark for the first time, far exceeding their all-time record (in dinars) for the whole of 2019 (5.6 billion dinars).

Compared to the level recorded on October 10, 2022, tourism receipts recorded an increase of 41.5%.

However, in dollar terms, tourism receipts recorded up to October 10, 2023 amount to $1.94 billion, exceeding the level of 2019, but remaining below the absolute record set for the whole of 2008, which amounted to $2.75 billion.

Indeed, the average annual exchange rate of the dollar against the Tunisian dinar was 1.23 dinars in 2008, compared with 3.10 dinars in 2023 (until October 10, 2023).

In terms of visitor numbers, 2008 was the second-best season after 2019, with 7,048,999 tourists compared with 7,984,516 visitors in 2019. However, 2023 will be better than any other year, with over 9 million visitors expected.
