Tunisia: prickly pear production down in Kasserine

The prickly pear production in the governorate of Kasserine (central-western Tunisia) reached 200 thousand tons in the agricultural season 2019-2020, against 250 thousand tons recorded in previous years, down 50 thousand tons.

This harvest is based in the locality of Zelfen, under the delegation of Fousana which includes an area of about 30 thousand hectares of this plant.

The total area of prickly pear in the region reached 100 thousand hectares out of a total of 600 thousand hectares on the national level, according to expert to the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the project to strengthen market access for local products and food in Kasserine, Boubaker Raddaoui.
