Tunisia: primary energy deficit down by 6% at end of April 2023

The primary energy balance deficit dropped by 6%ة during the first four months of 2023, compared with the same period in 2022, according to the report on the energy situation for April 2023, published by the National Observatory of Energy and Mines under the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy on Thursday.

This decrease is essentially due to the fall in demand for primary energy and hydrocarbon production. The same source analyzed that, including royalties, the primary energy balance at the end of April 2023 showed a deficit of 1.4 Mtoe, a decrease of 7% compared with the end of April 2022.

The energy independence rate, which represents the ratio of primary energy resources to primary consumption, stood at 51% at the end of April 2023. Without taking the license fee into account, the energy independence rate would be limited to 40% at the end of April 2023, compared with 41% at the end of April 2022.
