Tunisia: private agricultural investment up 66.7%, says APIA

Reported private agricultural investments reached 1,261.3 million dinars (MD) at the end of September 2017, against 756.4 billion dinars during the same period of 2016, up 66.7%.

According to data published by the Agricultural Investment Promotion Agency (APIA), its services registered 7,369 investment operations in the agricultural sector, against 4,584 transactions recorded during the same period 2016.

Nearly 67% of these reported transactions (54 thousand transactions) were recorded after the entry into force of the Investment Law (April 2017).

According to the same source, investments of the SMVDA (development and agricultural development companies) reached 29.6 MD, against 14.2 MD in 2016.

This growth is explained by the acquisition by 11 promoters who benefited of public lands of operating license agreements worth 21.8MD.

The value of investments with foreign participation is estimated at 23.9 MD, against 9.9 MD, during the same period of 2016.

These include greenhouse crops and geothermal vegetable gardens, the cultivation of olive groves and the breeding of livestock.

Investments in the oil mills sector reached 24.6 MD, against 4.3 MD in 2016.
