Tunisia: renewables account for only 4% of domestic electricity production

Renewables account for only 4% of the domestic electricity production, a source from the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG) told Africanmanager, noting that the project of renewable energy recently adopted by the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) should cover 30% of the Tunisian energy production by 2030.

Recall that the HPR had decided earlier this month to return the draft law on the production of electricity from renewable energy to the Committee on Industry and Energy in the HPR, on the request of Minister of Industry, Zakaria Hamad, to the defer the consideration of the for consultation.

One hundred and twenty deputies approved the postponement of the consideration of the bill No. 74 of 2013, while 16 others rejected it.

The HPR had adopted that Act, but the higher authority for control of the constitutionality of laws ruled unconstitutional three articles under the Act.
