Tunisia: reported industrial investment falls by 15.6%, at end of September

Reported investments in industry dropped by 15.6% to 1,825.5 million dinars (MD), until the end of September 2021, compared to the same period of 2020, according to data from the Agency for the Promotion of Industry and Innovation (Fench: APII)

Investments reported in chemical and agro-food industries went up by 55.2% and 46.5% respectively, yet they posted a decrease for the remaining industries, particularly building material, ceramics and glass industries (-63%), leather and footwear industries (-43.7%), mechanical and electronic industries (-39.7%), various industries (-25, 3%) as well as textile and clothing industries (-11.9%).

The number of reported projects amounted to 2,483 projects, up 4.8% compared to the previous year. These projects will help create 35,995 jobs.

Investments reported under project creation fell by 27.6% to 852.3 MD, until the end of September 2021. Similarly, reported investments as part of projects other than creation (extension, renewal of equipment…) went down 1.4% to 973.2 MD.

According to APII statistics, reported investments in totally exporting industries grew 34.5% to 792.2 MD, while those destined for production oriented towards the local market dropped by 34.4%, to 1033.3 MD, at end September 2021.
