Tunisia, Spain eye fruitful cooperation in textile and clothing sector

A delegation of 18 Spanish businessmen from the textile and clothing sector made a 3-day stay in Tunisia, from November 23, 2022, for B2B meetings and visits to Tunisian companies and factories in the sector.

Meetings with these Spanish brands, including internationally renowned brands, are a great business opportunity for the textile and clothing sector in Tunisia, and its greater openness to the global textile market including local markets.

This mission of Spanish textile buyers in Tunisia, follows the major event “Tunisia Textile Days in Spain”, organized from October 3 to 7, 2022 in Spain (Madrid and Barcelona) by the International Trade Center (ITC) under the Global Textiles and Clothing Program (GTEX) and the Textiles Program for the Middle East and North Africa (MENATEX), and co-financed by the Swiss and Swedish governments.

“Tunisia Textile Days in Spain” was aimed at bringing together Tunisian and Spanish companies in the textile and clothing industry and creating business alliances. The event was a great success and the result was the visit of these 18 Spanish businessmen from the textile and clothing sector in Spain, marked by the organization of 102 business meetings during their 3-day visit to Tunisia.

The 16 Tunisian companies hosting this delegation of businessmen are mainly specialized in the sectors of ready-to-wear, denim, swimwear and lingerie.

In honor of this Spanish delegation, a ceremonial reception was organized on November 23 in a hotel in the capital, in the presence of Mr. Javier Puig Saura – Ambassador of Spain in Tunisia, as well as representatives of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Tunis, and representatives of the Embassy of Switzerland in Tunisia (the financial partner of the program GTEX / MENATEX)

Also present at this reception, the presidents and senior executives of Tunisian partner institutions, namely: The Tunisian-Spanish Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CTECI), the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy, the Ministry of Trade and Export Development, the Tunisian Federation of Textile and Clothing (FTTH), the Technical Center of Textile in Tunisia (CETTEX) and the Center for Export Promotion of Tunisia (CEPEX).

Javier Puig Saura, Ambassador of Spain in Tunisia, said in a brief speech: “The textile sector is already an area of long-standing cooperation between Spain and Tunisia and with potential.

The COVID-19 crisis and the economic crisis bring markets and supply chains closer. I consider that there is much work to do to further strengthen the links between the Spanish and Tunisian textile sectors.
