Tunisia: strikes down 33% in private sector

The social climate was marked by a 33% decline in social movements in the private sector during the first 5 months of the current year. This was announced by Minister of Social Affairs Ahmed Ammar Younbai at a press briefing held Tuesday, June 16.

He said in this context that a 30% drop was recorded in companies affected by strikes. The same trend was observed in terms of lost work days.

Payment of salaries and other financial benefits remain the main cause of these movements (47%), followed by improving working conditions (26%) and solidarity of workers (14%).

By sector, the mechanical and electronic industries’ sector is the most affected (28%), followed by the textile and footwear sector (19%), the services sector (17%) and finally agri-food industries (11%).
