The rate of tax burden in Tunisia is 25.3% against 23.2% in 2018, 21.9% in 2017 and 20.8% in 2016, according to the provisional results of the execution of the State Budget at the end of 2019,
Last year, direct taxes amounted to 12.65 billion dinars, compared to 9 billion a year earlier, up 39.5%.
This strong growth is mainly due to the increase in income taxes, which soared by 38.6% to 8.8 billion dinars, including 5.48 billion dinars relating to taxes on remuneration and salaries.
As for corporate taxes, they amount to 3.83 billion dinars at the end of December 2019, against 2.7 billion a year earlier, thus posting an increase of 41.7%.
Indirect taxes totaled 16.25 billion dinars, up 5.3% compared to 2018. These taxes are composed of 1.28 billion customs duties (+6.3%), 7.79 billion VAT (+5%), 2.87 billion consumer duties (+0.3%) and 4.29 billion other indirect taxes (+9.1%).
