Tunisia: textile and clothing exports soar by 21.86% at end of May

Exports of textiles and clothing sector in Tunisia has continued its upward trend since the beginning of this year 2022, posting a growth of 21.86% in the first five months of the current year.

In dinar, these have reached a value of 3,712.9 MD, or about 1,137.8 million euros.

The coverage rate is thus estimated at 117%, according to statistics from the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mines.

These results have largely exceeded the value of exports during the same period of the year 2019 (before the spread of COVID-19) whether in dinars 6.76% (3477.7 MD) or in euros 12.05% (1015.4 million euros).

The same statistical data reveal that exports have went up 38.77% in dinar in May 2022 to 675.7 MD and 42.35% in euro, a value of 208.3 million euros, compared to the same period of the year 2021.

The value of exports of “pants” increased 28.73% in dinar until the end of May 2022 to 893.5 MD and 273 million euros, a growth of 30.2%, compared to the same period last year, knowing that these exports account for 29% of all exports of ready-to-wear.

Tunisia’s exports to the French, Italian, German, Belgian, Spanish, English and Portuguese markets saw a rise of 15.3%, 28.3%, 43.3%, 12.2%, 24.9%, 40.6%, and 44.8% respectively, while exports to the Dutch market have declined by 5.1%.

For exports of ready-to-wear intended for the European Union, they reached nearly 871.9 million euros, at the end of May 2022, up 24.28%, compared to the same period last year.

These exports represent 77% of all exports of the sector, according to the same source.
