Tunisia: TND depreciates by 5% against euro and appreciates 5.7% against USD in May

The dinar depreciated by 5% against the euro and appreciated by 5.7% against the U.S. dollar in May 2021, compared to May 2020.

According to data published by stock market broker AFC, in its document “Dashboard of the economic situation” (June 2021), the dinar depreciated against the euro and the U.S. dollar by 0.6% and 0.8%, respectively, in May 2021, compared to its value in December 2020.

In addition, the document pointed out that “loans to the economy (year-on-year) continue their deceleration initiated since December 2020, from an annual rate of 9.5% to an annual rate of 7.2% in February 2021”.

The overall average monthly volume of refinancing of banks stood, in fact, at 8, 732 MD in May 2021 against 10,107 MD during the same period last year.
