Tunisia to be a natural partner for Canada in trade

Alexandre Bilodeau, Canada’s Ambassador to Tunisia, announced that the 28th edition of the “Destination Canada Forum Mobilité”, being held in Tunisia for the first time, will begin on Monday, February 9, and run for three days.

Speaking to Express FM, Bilodeau said the large-scale event aims to connect young Tunisians with representatives of various Canadian institutions, including provincial authorities, professional associations, and potential employers.

He noted that more than 3,000 qualified Tunisians, preselected based on their applications, will take part, out of 10,000 applications submitted.

Selected participants will have the opportunity to engage with institutional representatives to explore employment opportunities in Canada, particularly outside francophone Quebec, where there is a real demand for expertise and labor across several sectors.

Bilodeau also stated that the number of Tunisians living in Canada is estimated at between 40,000 and 60,000.

On another note, the ambassador stressed that Canada’s foreign policy is increasingly focused on trade diversification. “We are witnessing a breakdown of the international order, and we need to respond. For Canada, this is a matter of autonomy and sovereignty,” he said.

In this context, he described Tunisia as a natural partner for Canada in trade, citing the historical ties between the two countries, shared language and cultural affinity.

He highlighted the ICT sector as an area with “enormous potential that needs to be structured and supported,” and also pointed to medical tourism as a promising field currently being developed.

Bilodeau concluded by saying that priority will be given to sectors capable of delivering quick results.
