Tunisia: tourism confirms its recovery

Indicators of the Tunisian National Tourism Office (ONTT) showed a 36.4% increase in revenues from tourism in Tunisia compared to the same period of 2011.

At the end of August 10, 2012, revenues reached 1,683 million dinars against 1,234 million dinars in 2011.

In comparison with 2010, tourism revenues are down 13.5%, which corresponds to a shortfall of 262, 3 million dinars.

The number of overnight stays increased by 60.1% compared to the same period of 2011, i.e. 17,262.760 nights, remaining still lower by 19.7% compared to 2010, the reference year for the sector.

Regarding the number of tourists visiting Tunisia, the country recorded until August 10, 2012, the arrival of nearly 3.452 million tourists, representing a decrease of 20.2% compared to 2010 (4,324.000 visitors), corresponding to a loss of nearly 872,000 tourists.

In comparison with the previous year, entries of non-residents increased by 33%.
