Tunisia: tourism figures until July 10

The health crisis has considerably impacted tourism in Tunisia, bringing about a fall in the number of tourists according to the figures of the Ministry of Tourism.

Those figures show a decline of 19.41% of arrivals at the Tunisian borders to July 10, compared to 2020 and -73.4 as against 2019.

In detail, the overall arrivals until July 10 reached 1,101,521 people divided between 512,887 North Africans (-40.6%), 351,003 Tunisians Residing Abroad (+24.9%), 200,668 Europeans (+8.3%), 427 Chinese (-89.7%) and 36,536 other nationalities (+9.6%).

For European tourists, they are mainly composed of 90,295 French (-17.5%), 9,903 Germans (-43.8%), 2,197 British (-74.7%) and 34,622 Russian (+2284%).

For North African tourists, they were 495,902 Libyans (+10%) and only 8,210 Algerians (-98%).

On the other hand, the total number of tourist overnight stays on May 31, 2021 (provisional) reached 1,314,563 nights, down 42.9%, including 121,998 overnight stays for Libyans (-70.2%) and 92,932 for French (-75.5%).

By region, the Djerba-Zarzis area has captured the largest share with 225,624 nights (-60.2%), closely followed by Tunis- Carthage Coasts with 222,248 overnight stays (-51.2%), Sousse with 181,690 (-52.9%) and Hammamet with 174,050 (-30.3%).

As for cumulative tourism revenues, they reached on July 10 the sum of 264.4 million euros (-28.5%) or 317.1 million dollars (-22.3%), the equivalent value of 874.2 million dinars (-25.3%).
