Tunisia’s trade deficit has further widened from January to October 2014, reaching 11,779.5 million Tunisian dinars (MTD), against 9,893.3 MTD in the same period 2013, due to the 3.4% decrease in the coverage of imports by exports to 69.8%.
According to data of the National Statistics Institute (INS) published by the TAP, this is the result of Tunisia’s trade deficit, in particular, with China (-2,407.9 MTD), Russia (-1,432.9 MTD), Italy (-767.8 MTD), Spain (-659.9 MTD), but also the deficit in the energy balance (3, 205.2 MTD) accounting for 27.2% of the overall trade deficit.
The INS has reported an imbalance in trade, due to a slight increase in exports by 2.1% (23,304.9 MTD) during the first ten months of 2014, against a perceptible increase in imports 7.2% (35,084.4 MD).
