The Administrative Committee of the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT), decided on Wednesday night, to declare a general strike nationwide on Thursday, December 13, 2012.
This decision was taken after a meeting in camera of the Steering Committee of the UGTT following the attack on Mohamed Ali Square the night before.
Shortly before, leader of Ennahdha, Rached Ghannouchi warned at a press conference, that the call for a general strike is a political decision, rather than a social action.
For its part, the Tunisian government has warned against the impact of a general strike and demonstrations on the functioning of public services particularly in such vital areas such as health, transport and education, in addition to first quarter exams in different schools and universities before the winter holidays scheduled for mid-December 2012.
