Tunisia: Unemployment drops slightly in Q2 to 15.3%

The total number of unemployed people fell to 651.1 thousand, compared to 664.5 thousand in the previous quarter, a decrease of 13.4 thousand people, according to official data published this Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS),

As a result, the national unemployment rate dropped from 15.7% to 15.3%.

This improvement mainly benefited men, whose unemployment rate fell to 12.6% (compared to 13.6% in the first quarter).

Conversely, the situation worsened for women, with their rate increasing to 20.9% from 20.3% three months earlier.

In the second quarter of 2025, the active population grew to 4.26 million people, compared to 4.233 million in the first quarter, an increase of 26.5 thousand individuals.

This active population is made up of 2,899.8 thousand men (68.1%) and 1,360.1 thousand women (31.9%). Paradoxically, despite this growth, the activity rate fell by 0.2 percentage points, from 46.4% to 46.2% of the working-age population (aged over 15).

Among 15–24-year-olds, unemployment remains at worrying levels despite a slight drop: 36.8% compared to 37.7% in the previous quarter. Breaking it down by gender, the rate is 36.4% for men and 37.8% for women.

The situation has also worsened for university graduates, whose unemployment rate rose to 24.0% (compared to 23.5% in the first quarter).

The gender gap remains significant: 14.2% for male graduates versus 31.3% for female graduates.
